What Type Of Golfer Are You?

Justin found a nice little collection of different types of Golfers that are out there that you or a friend of yours could be considered.

Everything from the Serious Golfer, The Guy Who Thinks He is Good but Isnt, The Gambler, and even The Hung Over Guy.

Check out the list at Grateful Blue

Did they miss anything though? Personally I hate the guy who is trying to go as fast as he can and get the game over with. I don't get why you wanna run while carrying a golf bag.

Tennis On The Idol? Say What?

Mark it down folks, Justin wants to discuss tennis and how no one in America cares about Tennis anymore. Why does no one care bout tennis according to Justin? Maybe it is because the world's top two players are not American, and only 2 people inside the top 10. To go even further There is only 7 players ranked inside the top 100 for world rankings.

So why in your eyes or opinion is Tennis not a major player as it used to be? Marketing? Cant because they are all over ESPN and as well getting air time on the Network stations. Whats the reason?

Sorry ESPN Is Not A Boston Thing

We had a caller come in blasting ESPN and their lovefest for the Boston area teams and how much air time these teams get even when according to this guy it shouldn't be on the air.

Maybe our caller was thinking Of HESN no ESPN. NESN is the New England Sports Network that focuses on all Boston and New England area sports teams.

So if you think ESPN is all about Boston area teams check out NESN

Thoughts On Game 1 For NBA Finals

Alright I actually was excited for the Finals even without my Suns in the game and came away with a few impressions.

  • Paul Pierce, man you get hurt and fall to the ground and you look absolutely scared like your career is over. Ok thats fine and understandable. But don't get scraped off the floor like you're dead and then be carried off by 4 guys from your team. Then you have the nerve after being carried off the court to come jumping and skipping into the game again after 3 live minutes and 1:40 minutes of game time.
  • Kobe is unreal, when he wants to be. I am not a fan of Kobe Bryant at all. I actually dislike the guy with a passion. I haven't really sat down in a long long time to watch a full game of Kobe this season and came away with mad respect for his game. His fade-away J is lethal and better than anyone's not named Jordan. However Kobe will never be Jordan until he knows to take the game over. What was with Kobe passing off and not being a threat late in the 4th? Thats your time man take it! But man I dislike him but his game is unreal.
  • You can tell ABC/ESPN is going to pump the old rivalry as long as they can. As cool as it was seeing the Magic/Bird NBA final promotion it didn't require Stuart Scott and the rest of the ABC gang spewing out their lovefest for the old basketball days. Seriously guys lets stop living in the past and talk more about this year's final. Oh and notice before the game actually started all the photos the sports websites were using? They were all Laker and Celtic players in retro "old school" jerseys.
  • Forgot how gritty Derek Fisher was. Man that guy has some heart and can flat out play. One of the best PGs in the playoffs since a long time. Not a guy who is known as a super star but a great great player. He was key for the Lakers to stay in the game in my opinion.
  • Did anyone catch the piece ABC did with the current players for both teams talking about this rivalry? Something caught my eye while I was watching this. Why is Kevin Garnett being interviewed for this? And hes talking about how great it is to be a Celtic and how the tradition is huge? Has he played in Boston his entire time? No. So stop acting like you have been there.
  • In defense of KG however I must say he played on fire all night long. Personally I didn't think he would but dang he just dominated Pau Gasol and I don't know how many posters were being made late last night after KG posterized him.

Rants And The NBA Finals

Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed or the added material for a final in one of my classes today but man I am in a bad bad mood.

I gotta get this off my chest so here it goes,

Anyone notice on the roads in Eugene/Springfield and how the drivers' skill seems to be degrading? People cutting each other off left and right. Stare downs because you cut me off. People going up and down the freeways 90 miles an hour and honking for you to get over to the other lane cause your only going 70. Man people when did Eugene become LA or Phoenix or another large city.

Secondly, Paul Pierce...man up son! Man up! I know a tweaked knee hurts as I have done it personally. It hurt. But this is the NBA man, its the finals! Man up. But seriously, you can't walk off the court on your own power? Ok thats fine. But dude you can't even dude the man made crutch and use two trainers as crutches and use your other good leg? NOOOOOO, you have to have 4 people come scrape you off the floor with your face in agony and then you come back after 3 real live minutes and 1:40 in game minutes to run up and down jumping with a smile like everything is ok to the crowd. Dude you were not hurt admit it...

Third, what is wrong with this gosh darn weather?!! Its June 6th! College Baseball World Series has started their regionals stuff and its raining with Snow Warning announcements in the mountains? URGG

Lastly, promise guys, its the last rant, what is going on in Bean Town? Wednesday Coco Crisp goes for the leg of a Tampa Bay Ray's ankle/foot trying to hurt him. Than yesterday everyone knew about the brawl that took place after the Rays sent a message and beaned Crisp for his first at bat and a fight came around. Now there was a fight between Rodsox teammates Manny Remirez and Kevin Youkilis over the pouting that Youkilis does when he has a bad at bat. Seriously guys...fighting amongst yourself? Dang things must be peachy over there and thats my team to boot....

The Fist Pump And Butt Tap

Had to put this up there cause my boss is throwing out check YouTube instead of the blog...ouch thanks...

Check out the "good game babe" at the end.

Blazers And The NBA Draft

A caller called in and brought up an interesting bit of news for you NBA and Trailblazer fans. OSU's C.J. Miles who was kicked off the team earlier in the year was invited to a workout for the Blazers for an evaluation period for the upcoming draft.

A few callers called in with some skepticism about this news and if the Blazers were going to start drafting players with shady backgrounds again.

None of us here at 1320 believe thats the plan and instead the Blazers are just double checking every available player just in case they don't miss anything.

Came up with a great question for all you readers out there. Since the Blazers have a lotto pick as well as a few other 2nd round draft picks how should the Blazers handle all these picks and what player(s) should the Blazers target?

Baseball Brawl

The Boston Redsoxs and the Tampa Bay Rays got into a little tussle today over an intentional hit on Coco Crisp of the Redsox by Rays pitcher James Shields.

The fight started yesterday evening when Coco Crisp slid into 2nd base with his spikes pointed up and attempted to take out the second baseman Akinori Iwamura when he was caught stealing two innings after he felt shortstop Jason Bartlett blocked the bag with his leg.

So like old school baseball rules go the Rays would get revenge either last night or sometime today. Nothing happened last night so when Coco Crisp came up to hit for the first time in today's game this is what happened:

Not the best quality of video but hey nice to actually get a chance to see from someone who was actually there.

Top Ten College Tailgate Schools

Lists, Food, and College Football...what is Justin missing in those 3 things? Nothing. This is a softball to get Justin going on a topic for hours. Thankfully he doesn't read this and I put up stuff he won't talk about...but will he?

Tailgate Monthly came out with a top 10 of tailgate schools and sadly no Oregon on the list.

10. USC
9. Wisconsin
8. Alabama
7. Colorado
6. Tennessee
5. Michigan
4. Auburn
3. LSU
2. Ole Miss
1. Penn State

Now that list seems solid and I have only been to a few west coast places for tailgating but I think Penn State is a little high with my guess. LSU or Georgia or heck Florida? Where are those schools? Georgia and Florida have the biggest party of the year and neither school makes the cut?

Check out the entire story here

Fan Beats Secruity In Race

I will always watch a fan who runs onto the field of a sporting event and get chased around by fat, old, and slow secruity guards. This one is pretty funny as it was during a Boston game.

Check out the player who tries his football skills out in the outfield and completely whiffs on tackling the dude. Stick to baseball man.

Give Us Your Prediction For NBA Finals

With the NBA finals starting up, finally I know I know, lets here who everyone thinks is going to win the title and in how many games.

Personally, I am leaning to the Celtics but I hope to god the Lakers win cause I can't stand Celtic fans that I know and I just dont like KG nor Paul Pierce. I dont like the Lakers either cause I am a Suns fan but well I have to pick one team.

Lakers in 6.

Mariners Manager Goes Off On Terrible Season

Ah the classic mid-season blow up by a baseball manager. We can now add John McLaren to the long list of professional and college coaches who have gone on camera after a game and go nutz about how bad their team is.

McLaren and his staff came into work Wednesday and find out they had a meeting with the President of Operations Chuck Armstrong and General manager Bill Bavasi. Rumor has it this meeting was a closed door affair that basically had the coaches getting yelled at for their terrible play.

So then the team goes out to try to beat the Angels and prevent a series sweep but fail to win and lose the game 4-5 and also fail to prevent the sweep.

Left fielder Raul Ibanez said he's more frustrated and embarrassed than at any point in his career.Relief pitcher Arthur Rhodes paced the clubhouse with a scowl and some angry words, then kicked a trash can and threw a couple of shoes

General manager Bill Bavasi, who called out the team less than two weeks ago for poor play and a lack of clubhouse leadership, ordered the players to be at their lockers when reporters were allowed into the clubhouse after the game.Bavasi also shut down the postgame meal and made other areas of the clubhouse, where many players often have avoided the media after games, off-limits.

Now while all of this is going on McLaren goes out to the press and does this....ENJOY...

Whoof, talk about a lashing if you ask me. Sounds like the entire M's team and front office has just had a bad day and needs a little pick me up.

Here guys, this might help if you watch and listen to this,

UW Defenisve Star Breaks Bone Arm Wrestling

E.J. Savannah a Junior LB for the Washington Huskies who is the leading tackler from last year's team and star defensive player this year has broke a bone in his arm this past weekend. Inside sources have said it happened in an Arm Wrestling Match.

A source said Savannah suffered the injury while arm-wrestling, though the team said officially that he was injured in a non-football-related incident. Savannah broke his humerus, the long bone that runs from the shoulder to the elbow.

Now this is sorta Duck related as back in 2004 when the Ducks were recruiting Jonathan Stewart out of Lacey, WA the Ducks were also recruiting Savannah out of Bellevue, WA. Both players were ranked similar overall for the RB spot and after Stewart committed to Oregon Savannah mysteriously climbed the charts ahead of Stewart.

Husky fans immediately took advantage of this situation and started blasting they got the better back of the two. Savannah hasn't seen anything close to the success as Stewart has and has had numerous problems to getting onto the field.

2005: Missed season with neck stingers (pinched nerves).

2006: Missed three games with broken hand.

2007: Lost starting spot in fall camp with academic issue.

April 2008: Moved out of two-deeps in spring for missing offseason workouts.

June 2008: May miss first two games with broken arm.

So kids if some big dude challenges you to an Arm Wrestling match be the smarter person and back off because clearly this is a sign that they aren't the smartest idea in the world.

Stay tuned for more updates as I am looking for video and pictures of the famous event!

Packers Running Back Fights Off Burglars

Apparently some Burglars in the Green Bay area didn't know who's house they were breaking into a house and found out the hard way it was a Green Bay Packer Running Back named Noah Herron who decided to fight back after hearing them break in.

He unscrewed a bedpost and knocked one of the them out with the bedpost, and chased the others off the premises.

Check out the quote from the Police from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

The intruder was injured during the May 30th burglary and a second offender was apprehended outside the home by Brown County Sheriff's deputies, according to information released by the Brown County Sheriff's Department today. Herron was not hurt during the invasion.

Memphis owner now questions value of Gasol deal

The Memphis Grizzlies owner is just now starting to question the monumental trade that was made in the middle of the NBA season this year that involved Pau Gasol and Kwame Brown and others.

Lakers got Gasol and rode the new addition to the line-up all the way to this year's NBA finals and the Grizz rode the pine to one of the worst records in the NBA this year.

Here's a few exerts from the article that can be found here on Yahoo Sports.

“I don’t know if I got the most value,” Heisley confessed. “Maybe our people should’ve shopped (Gasol) more and maybe we would’ve gotten more, done a better deal. Maybe Chris did call every team in the league. I don’t think he did, but maybe he should’ve…”

For Gasol, the 7-footer who transformed the Lakers in the absence of Andrew Bynum, the Grizzlies were willing to take back the expiring contract of Kwame Brown, rookie point guard Javaris Crittenton, two future No. 1 picks and the draft rights to Gasol’s brother, Marc.

Crittenton is nothing special, and those draft picks in 2008 and 2010 will be near, if not at the end of, the first round. Gasol had demanded a trade out of Memphis, had been moping around, giving less than his best. Yes, he had to go, but you don’t trade your franchise player without getting back a minimum of a sure-thing young star and/or two solid young starters. For Memphis, salary-cap space will probably turn out to be money that’ll never make it back into the roster.

The one-sided nature of the trade inspired a lot of people to believe that retired Memphis GM, Jerry West, a Lakers’ legend, played a part in facilitating the deal. West was instrumental recruiting Wallace as his replacement in Memphis and still holds a close relationship with Heisley. His history in Los Angeles, especially his bond with Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak and star Kobe Bryant, made even the fair-minded cynical about the scenario.

Several sources close to the process insist West played no part, and Heisley swears, “Jerry didn’t know about the trade until after it was done.”

Justin Pissing Off MMA Crowd?

Like it or not people MMA is starting to grow and at least for the bare minimum making Sports Talk shows and TV Stations to start at least discussing it and if it should be a mainstream sport.

Yesterday's show Justin touched on the Prime time event that was the first time MMA was on a network station and said he was disappointed.

To recap what Justin said about MMA and the event last weekend Justin basically said he came away disappointed in the show because it wasn't the top league, bad programming for the TV station, and there was some controversy in the fight.

MMA fans have called in all day Monday and it looks like the show will be the same today(Tuesday) as Justin made one small mention of MMA being a disappointment and MMA fan's have made it a point to let us know.

So has Justin made you MMA fan upset over his comments? What about you average Joe who like myself is interested in learning more about MMA, where you disappointed in the fight?

How can things change?

Coolest Names In Sports

Found this list over at Sports Clicks at SI.com where the gang there decided to make a short and sweet list of the coolest names of athletes in all of sports.

The list they came up with went like this:

1. Shaquille O'Neal
2. Stig Tofting
3. Champ and Boss Bailey
4. Longar Longar
5. Nook Logan

Now I agree these are some interesting names but I can come up with some better names that should be on this list.

(Matt The Blogger)

Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje(NBA Player)
Usane Bolt(Track Star)
D'Brickashaw Ferguson(NFL player)
Popeye Jones(NBA Player)
Sonny Sixkiller(NFL Player)
Coco Crisp(Baseball player)
Zinedine Zidane(Soccer Player)
Wesley Mallard(NFL,ExDuck)

Joey The Producer Update

Got a nice call from Joey our producer here for the "Sports Idol" and how he is doing in Vegas for his nice little vacation.

Joey I guess has lost a few bills since Justin last talked to him but according to Joey has done the best out of his group so far.

Eric who's filling in for Joey right now has brought in a nice little Nintendo Wii for myself and him to play while Joey is gone so we sure do miss him and cant wait for him to get back...

Flip Saunders Gone From Pistons-Right Move?

The Detroit Piston's fired Flip Saunders who is their head coach this Tuesday Morning. Saunders averaged nearly 59 wins a season the 3 years he was in Detroit. Thats third to only Avery Johnson of Dallas and Greg Popovich of San Antonio.

He was 30-21 in the playoffs while taking the Pistons to three straight Eastern Conference Finals appearances.

He was fired however for his inability to take the team back to the NBA Finals and to win a title.

Was this a good decision though by the Front Office of the Pistons? He got you wins during the regular season and was able to put you in position to win a spot in the NBA Finals. Yet he couldn't win the big game....

RealGM.com Rankes Best Players In NBA Playoffs

Found this nice little list for Justin for him to read up on and then either agree or bash it till noon tomorrow.

Link

1. Kevin Garnett
2. Tim Duncan
3. Kobe Bryant
4. Chris Paul
5. Paul Gasol
6. LeBron James
7. Paul Pierce
8. Tony Parker
9. Rajon Rondo
10. Lamar Odom
11. Deron Williams
12. Richard Hamilton
13. Dwight Howard
14. David West
15. Tayshaun Prince
16. Chauncey Billups
17. Mehmet Okur
18. Manu Ginobili
19. Ray Allen
20. Rasheed Wallace
21. Kendrick Perkins

I agree with the list to an extent but I got a few gripes about it.

First off where is Amare Stoudemire of the Suns? He was a big reason why the Suns were even in the games against the Spurs.

Perkins being listed? Really? He has had one good game and he gets listed?

Joe Johnson didn't play well against the Celtics? They had no answer for him really.

List is solid but if your like me you can find some errors, lets see them by the way...

Will This Year's NBA Finals Match-Up With Old Laker-Celtic Series?

Well somewhere back east NBA Commissioner David Stern is sipping champaign and tipping his hat in delight as the NBA got the finals just as they were hoping. East Coast meets West Coast, two big time markets involved, and lastly and old fashion rivalry rekindled with the Lakers and Celtics meeting.

Now I'm a tad too young to recall this great rivalry in the NBA finals but I do know it exists and I've seen many clips from this rivalry. Seen the close lines and the hard fouls and the excitement that came in all the great games. Question real quick though. Will the wide gap between this final and the last time they met up be too large for this rivalry to pick right up?

Personally, I don't think we are going to see anything of the old rivalry in this year's Final but it should be entertaining as we get Kobe vs "The 3 biggest Underachievers" in KG, Allan, and Pierce.

Rank The Sports

For listeners out there checking the blog for the first time today or trying to keep up with the show you might have missed a very good topic amid all the MMA callers and E-Mailers. It tied in with MMA but could be an interesting topic so I'll slap it on the blog.

Rank the sports from best to worst.

1. NFL- you cant beat the NFL as its the top dog on and off the field. Baseball has fallen from it's perch as America's past time and been replaced by football. We talk about Volunteer Workouts for goodness sakes on ESPN on a daily basis right now!

2. NBA- With a stellar season parlaying into a solid playoff that has produced the classic battle between West coast and East coast in the Lakers and Celtics. The NBA has slipped past MLB these past few years but there is still a long road before it challenges number 1.

3. MLB- The steroid issues have hurt baseball a ton and they lost the top spot. Baseball got it's magic from the Boston Redsox winning the world series a few years back and now the Chicago Cubs are looking to win a title since their last one in 100 years.

4. Nascar- The race game is picking up speed and getting bigger and bigger. Its made the transition from underground to the main market. Its working its way across the nation and getting into more social groups.

5. Golf- Golf takes a major hit without Tiger Woods in action and right now it's a tad below Nascar but not far. Its still a specialty sport that not everyone can play but with programs across the nation making golf an easier game to play things are changing.

7. Tennis- Tennis has taken a major hit with his major stars leaving the game due to age and other reasons. Still a solid amount of star power but not what it once was.

8. NHL- The NHL is trying to get back into the top 5 but things look bleak right now. Too many teams and not making any more compounded with names no one can pronounce spells disaster.

Agree disagree? Let us know or better yet tell me where I went wrong!

This Is Why Sports Are Awesome

Found this as I was looking for stuff for MMA actually on SI.com while Justin was talking about it. This personally is what sports are about (no that wasn't a knock on MMA). Seeing a kid defy odds and take a chance when he can be ridiculed for his disability but instead embraces it and plays sports just as if he was of the other "normal" kids if you can call all kids normal.

Here is the link to read the story about how he defies odds and plays baseball on one leg!

Make sure to watch the video which is found halfway down the article on the right.

MMA Knock-Out?

Mixed Martial Arts or more importantly known as MMA held its first network fight Saturday night and it appears from most national and even our own Justin Myers sports talk hosts believe this fight and opportunity was a tripout that left MMA falling flat on it's face and taking yet again another step backward in its fight to become a national player when it comes to sports.

I got a chance to catch highlights of the fight and I have seen the commentators all slam the fight but question is for you MMA fans and for you people who are not fans who did catch the show.

Were you satisfied with the fight Saturday night or did it get that minor league approach for you?

Bottom line is that Kimo Slice is one huge man that I don't want to see in a dark ally let alone fight. Oh and check out the look alike comparison to Mr. T!!
