The Future's New Pitcher
Pat Venditte's dad got the idea to teach this minor league baseball player how to throw both right and left handed when he was younger and it's helped him get all the way to the minor leagues and now has caused a pretty big stir in the minor leagues because of this instance.

Steps To Become Bandwagon Fan
DJ Gallo of ESPN.Com's Page 2 site came up with a pretty good list of how you jump from bandwagon to bandwagon and be able to pull the covers over your friends faces and trick them to believe you've been a fan forever!
1. Pick your bandwagon
It goes without saying that you first have to search for an appropriate bandwagon to jump onto. So look high. Look low. Actually, just look high. You are a bandwagon jumper, after all -- only the teams at the top of the standings should be attractive to you.
2. Stock up on gear
If you are going to be a respectable bandwagon fan, you need to have all the coolest new team-logo apparel. T-shirts, hats, beach towels, drink cozies -- all of it. Think twice about dropping $150 on an official team jersey, however. You'll wish you had that money back when you inevitably leap off this bandwagon and latch onto another one in a few months. Bandwagon-jumping requires measured financial investment. If you spend too much, you might feel tied to a team even when it starts losing. Yuck!
3. Get the family involved
Now that you are plastered with team apparel, it's time to get the wife and kids on board as well. You'll want to get the Mrs. a pink team shirt. A pink hat, too. Maybe even a jean jacket with the team logo on the back in rhinestones. Classy! Junior also will need some gear, like T-shirts, a bib and a hat. Remember: Jumping on a bandwagon can be a wonderful experience for the entire family. An opportunity like this might not come along for several more months!
4. Create a connection
5. Research, Part 1: Get the basics
6. Research, Part 2: Go a little deeper
7. Research, Part 3: Learn whom to hate
8. Take on the identity of the team and its fan base
9. Avoid "real" fans
10. Get a car flag

Jeter Most Overrated MLB Player?
According to a poll done by Sports Illustrated that consisted of 495 major leaguers in the game today have said Derek Jeter is the most overrated player in the game today.
Wait...Jeter? Most overrated? Seriously? I can think of a few guys who are far more overrated than him. David Ortiz? Dontrelle Willis?

Curt Schilling Might Be Calling It Quits

Curt Schilling announced today he will be going under the knife and will shut down his 20th season in Major League Baseball.
Schilling will have surgery on his ailing shoulder Monday ending his season and possibly his career as he told ESPN.com.
Schilling will have the operation after a rehabilitation program preferred by the team failed to fix the tendon injury that sparked a spring training dispute between doctors about how to treat it.
"My season is over and there is a pretty decent chance I have thrown my last pitch forever," Schilling said Friday on WEEI radio in Boston.
Schilling has been out since the start of spring training. His physician, Craig Morgan, confirmed to The Associated Press that he will do the surgery Monday in Wilmington, Del.
Through 20 years Schilling has gone 216-146 with a .597 winning percentage and a career strikeout total of 3116.Does Schilling get into the Hall of Fame as a first time ballot? Or Second Ballot? Or does he even get into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown?

Kevin Millar Loses Prop Bet
As many people know pro athletes are big time betters and sometimes they can come up with some funny bets to help pass the time during the season's road trips or during practice.
Kevin Millar and Jason Varitek made a bet with each other who would win the NBA Finals this season and the loser would have walk up to bat with this theme music (If you don't know the song its "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice):

Tiger Woods Gets Slammed By Sports Writer
Tiger Woods is an idiot. A mesmerizing, peerless, incandescent idiot.
If he'd used his head at all, he would never have entered the U.S. Open last week with a double stress fracture and a torn ligament in his left leg. Woods marched 21 miles over the longest layout in Open history, playing five rounds and 24 hours of spellbinding golf, repeatedly wincing before he could plant a ritual smooch on the side of the coveted trophy Monday afternoon. Then, two days later, he had to kiss the rest of his season goodbye.
Thats the first paragraph of Gwenn Knapp of the San Francisco Chronicle's piece on Tiger Woods and his lack of judgment to get his surgery on his torn ACL in his left leg. If you'd like to read the rest of the story click here.
Now I understand Knapp's viewpoint saying that Tiger shouldn't have waited that long to do the surgery because of the effects it will have on his knee but personally it's Tiger's choice to wait and he knew of all risks he was taking.
Wait, what risks? I'm no doctor but once you tear your ACL you can't do any more harm to that ligament until it completely heals over.
But what about the idea that he sacrificed the rest of this season and possibly early next season to win one tournament?
Its the U.S. Open! Its personally right up there with the Masters and British Open! Maybe Tiger wanted to see if he could continue playing with the pain and then take the surgery after the US Open. Who knows what his entire plan was with the surgery but all I know is that he's good enough to win one of the toughest tournaments in the PGA Tour with a torn ACL.
Do you agree with Knapp's article? Disagree with what I said? Let us know... please...ok or not.
NFL Update-Pre Aaron Fentris
Getting this in before Justing talks with Fentris of the Oregonian about the news around the NFL.

Adam "Pac Man" Jones of the Dallas Cowboys just might be growing up and becoming an adult instead of a crazy kid. In another effort to shed his troubled past, Jones will publicly request that he be known simply as Adam Jones, rather than call him by the name "Pacman," NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports in this article
And onto other news in the NFL we look to the Green Bay Packers...and no its not about Brett Farve returning to play another season for the ever so famous "Pack" but instead its being reported that the Packers want to land Jason Taylor from the Miami Dolphins.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel are reporting that the Packers have called the Dolphins to check if the team is willing to deal the star defensive end. The Packers also inquired about Taylor before April's NFL draft. According to the Journal Sentinel, the Packers would agree to a deal only if Taylor backs down on his desire to play just one more season according to this article done by Chris Mortensen of ESPN.Com
Mariners Clean House Even More

Three days ago the Mariners brass decided it was time to part ways with Bill Bavasi and find a new General Manager. Now the Mariners have dumped Manager John McLaren today and replaced McLaren with bench coach Jim Riggleman for the rest of the season.
With the apparent decision to tear down the entire program what should the Mariners do to get back to the level of success that was seen in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Personally this is what I would do:
1. Try to trade Sexon, Beltre, and Ibanez for as many prospects or draft picks as you can possibly get. You need to get as many youthful talent into your farm system as possible right away.
2. Revamp your minor league system. You need to start developing your talent you already have and stop trying to land the big name free-agents. M's need to focus on their own talent and finding that talent instead of trying to land that big name player in free agency which they have been trying to do and been failing to do in years.
3. Build your team around pitching and defensive players. Build a great staff first and back them up with all around defensive players in the field. Worry about hitting later as that will take care of its self if you have a great staff and defensive players.
Agree with all of this? Have a part you'd change? Hate it? Let us know!

Greatest Performances by Injured Athletes
Justin loves lists and I found a list that could turn into a very good topic feeder.
SI.com had a nice list of 5 players who they felt had some of the best games ever in sports while playing hurt.
Here is how their list breaks down:
5. Bryon Leftwich- Fractured his shin during a 2002 game against Akron and continued to play the rest of the game. Brought the team back to win and had the famous scene where his players carried him down the field to continue playing after each play.
4. Isiah Thomas- Game Six of the 1988 NBA Finals, Thomas fractured his ankle but stayed in the game and scored 25 points in the fourth quarter, carrying the Detroit Pistons, but still losing the game.
3. Curt Schilling- His bleeding sock in the 2004 ALCS against the New York Yankees in which the Sox came back and won the series down 0-3.
2. Kirk Gibson- Despite two bad knees and a stomach flu, Gibson wobbled onto the field during the 1988 World Series and jacked a home run to win Game One.
1. Willis Reed- Game 7 in 1970 for the NBA title Reed limped onto the court in spite of a torn thigh muscle and led the Knicks to an NBA title.
Agree with the list? Disagree? Let us know.

PGA Tour Takes Gigantic Blow

Tiger Woods has announced he will be out for the remainder of the golf season due to an ACL tear that took place jogging after the British Open during last season's tour.
The time table has not been set on when Woods will undergo surgery but we do know this will be his third surgery on his knee in the last 5 years. This posses the question, what effect on Tiger's game will this do in the future?
Tiger has decided to do the surgery because Tiger needs time to rehabilitate a double stress fracture of his left tibia, which he said was discovered just before the Memorial Tournament in late May.
With wind coming from Tiger's website of the injury and the decision to stop playing this year people up and down the PGA Tour went into panic mode. The Tour lost its main icon and its big money making machine.
With Tiger out for the rest of the season does the average fan watch the British Open and the PGA Championship?

KG & Pierce Make Up For Entire Lack Of Excitement
If you turned on your TV during the middle of the game to check out the score and found yourself seeing a blow out and sadly a snooze fest check out this KG clip that totally redeems the game's lack of entertainment.
Then check out this clip from Paul Pierce after the team's celebrations in the locker room and when he met with the press.
What in the world was going on with KG? Pierce wanting to leave cause its so great and he has parties to get to?

Celtics Win NBA Title Wednesday Night

Going into Wednesday night's game 6 the Celtics looked to end the series at home and bring home the franchises 17th NBA title and move into third place for most championships in professional sports in the Western Hemisphere.
Not going to lie it was a game I was excited to watch as I thought the Lakers would come out hot and give us a great game but in the end see the Celtics win.
Low and behold the Celtics and Lakers played things close in the first and then the Celtics went on a tear and won game 6 and the NBA title with a score of 131-92. Talk about the ultimate let down.
Is this the greatest blowout in NBA Finals History? Was anyone disappointed as I was with this game? lastly does the Celtics have the inside track to repeat next season?

Face the Truth, It's Uncle Phil
ESPN chose Phil Knight as the face of Oregon football. Seems to make sense to me (Producer Joey), seeing he's been the financial backing of most of the program for at least the last decade. When people see Oregon football, they think about the Nike uniforms, which leads back to Uncle Phil.
Justin felt it should be Autzen Stadium, which is a choice if you'd like to go and vote for the sports nation choice.
Timings everything
Its not completely uncommon to be awoken early in the morning by a random telephone call, but to wake up to a call from your boss to fire you? WOW! The Mets are getting hit hard for their firing tactics of manager Willie Randolph, who was fired at 3:15 AM eastern time Tuesday morning.
Could this possibly one of the worst cases of bad timing? I mean the Mets had a two game winning streak going. They had won three of their last five. They were on a week long west coast road trip. GM Omar Minaya couldn't have done this after their five game losing streak at home?
Not only does it suck to get fired, but at 3 in the morning when your on a business trip across the country. Smooth move Mets, smoooth.

Star Wars Dance Off
It's Monday which sucks and its a slow day in sports which makes things even more worse so to find that niche Joey the producer and I hit the net to find funny videos and found this...enjoy...watch the last two minutes for sure.
M's Fire GM Bill Bavasi
The Seattle Mariners have finally axed General Manager Bill Bavasi who has ran the Mariners from being one of the most respectful teams in the MLB to the laughing stock in five years. Trading top prospects, signing average free-agents to large contracts, and not hiring a big name manager have all been issues with the team.
Now that Bavasi is gone with the M's how would you fix the mess up in Seattle if you were GM?
I would firesale the entire place and take a few terrible season's but stack up draft picks and youth and build for a few years down the road.
What Sport Has Best Overtime Solution?
With the US Open going to a playoff the rules state that the players involved must play another full round of golf the following day. Thus tons of fans were left in the pits when they were leaving town or out of money for the extended play period.
So the question is what sport has the best plan for overtime or sudden death?
Personally I love the NFL's set up. Coin toss for who kicks and receives and then its first team to score.
Tiger vs Jordan vs Manning: Who Wins?
While watching the U.S. Open I noticed the new Tiger/Nike commerical out there which is a pretty good one with video clips of him and his dad with his dad or someone speaking on behalf of his deceased dad.
via videosift.com
and lastly for Petyon Manning
But it got me thinking, is Tiger, Peyton Manning, or Michael Jordan bigger on TV? These three guys have some great commericals and are all big time athletes getting major publicity from their sponsors. Its random yes I know but it semi ties into the US Open...right?
Here are some of my favorites of Tiger:
via videosift.com
And now here are my favorites of the Jordan era...
and lastly for Petyon Manning
So the question is...who's got better onscreen talent?
What Sport Comes In 4th?
Got into a little debate with some hockey enthusiasts today on the show about Hockey being more popular than golf or nascar things became interesting with people's reasoning.
So I put this up poll to see what the readers think.
Tiger Win's US Open-Greatest Of All Time?

With an injury thats still in rehab mob Tiger Woods made a par putt and Rocco Mediate bogeyed on the 7th hole and thus giving Woods his 14th major victory on Torrey Pines in San Diego, CA.
With Woods claiming his 14th major title Tiger moves into an elite list with only golfing great Jack Nicklaus as the only players to capture the career Grand Slam three times over.
This posses a great topic, is Tiger now the greatest golfer of all time or is Nicklaus still considered the top dog among golfers on the PGA Tour?
